Moscow, Russia

Terry and I spend a week in the capital on our two month trip in Russia. 

Moscow was Russia's capital before Peter the Great moved the capital to his new city, St. Petersburg. 

Few facts about Moscow:
Moscow is home to almost 13 million people making Moscow the most populous city in Europe.
Moscow is one of the most expensive cities in the world.
Moscow is 860 years old.

Kremlin

The Moscow Kremlin is a must-see for visitors to Moscow and one of the best things to do in the Russian capital city. The Kremlin (means 'fortress') is a complex of buildings and cathedrals enclosed by long, high red walls.

Once inside, you can visit Cathedral Square, whose historic cathedrals were worshiped in by the tsars and their families.

Red Square

Just outside the Kremlin is the famous Red Square. The name "red" comes from another gloss of the Russian word "krasniy", meaning "beautiful".


St Basil Cathedral

St Basil Cathedral is located in Red Square. It is built in 1555-61.

Cathedral of Christ the Savior


Cathedral of Christ the Savior is the tallest Orthodox church in the world (the largest being the Temple of St. Sava in Belgrade).

Old Arbat

Old Arbat Street is tourist-oriented. It is full of little cafes, fast food places, souvinir shops. Artists, musicians, or jugglers are competing for your attention. Old Arbat Street is completely pedestrian, which means it's great for a leaisure evening stroll.



Boat Tours

Boat tours are pupolar among tourists in the summer and are a very pleasant way to view the city. You will see she towers of the Kremlin and other significant architectural monuments.

Subway

Central Moscow is best to be explored on foot, but as the distances are huge, it's easiest to use the famous Metro system. Metro system is Russia is considered one of the most beautiful and boasts some great architecture.
